Alana and Shannon were married on a beautiful sunny day in early April 2013 at the Big Hill Vineyard, just outside of Bendigo. They wanted to have a late afternoon ceremony, and because it was a priority for them to have some photographs in other Bendigo locations they readily agreed to my suggestion of meeting up before the ceremony for some extra photography time. Shannon waited in front of the Bendigo Courthouse with his back turned while his beautiful wife to be walked up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. It was a lovely beginning to a magical day together! Seeing each other before the ceremony is a great idea if you want the advantage of gorgeous late afternoon light for your ceremony, and less waiting around for your guests between the wedding and reception, especially when everything is being held at the one venue. It’s also a brilliant way to calm pre-wedding nerves and lets the couple enjoy each others company for a larger portion of the day. We had such a great time taking photos in Pall Mall, the Shamrock Hotel, a lovely treed paddock and this fabulous shabby old wall. This image is a favourite. I think they look so sweet dancing together!
This was an absolutley gorgeous wedding. I had an amazing day with this sweet couple and their lovely bridal party, and Big Hill Vineyard is such a fantastic venue with great views and even greater photo opportunities. My regular assistant and second shooter, Sue (who also happens to be my darling sister) was overseas on holiday, so I was honoured to have Bendigo photographer Terri Basten join me as second shooter. Terri is a very dear friend and a brilliant photographer, so it was a real thrill to work with her, not to mention great fun!
Here is a slideshow of the rest of Alana and Shannon’s perfect day, featuring photos of them both getting ready, Bendigo locations, their ceremony and some late afternoon fun in the long grass at Big Hill Vineyard. Enjoy!
Thank you Alana and Shannon for allowing me to be part of your special day. You were a joy to work with and I just loved your calm, happy approach to everything. I wish you endless love and happiness together and look forward to seeing you again soon to show you the rest of your photographs.
